Will is a partner in the Litigation and Dispute Management Department. He is Head of the International Arbitration Group.

Based in Paris since 2001, he specialises in public international law, investment arbitration and international commercial arbitration. His experience includes advising and representing parties in proceedings before the International Court of Justice and the Iran-US Claims Tribunal. Will has also acted in numerous institutional and ad hoc arbitrations, including under ICC, LCIA, ICSID and UNCITRAL rules. He regularly appears as advocate in such proceedings.

Will’s clients include States, State entities and private multinational companies. He has particular experience in the energy and telecoms sectors.

He is a regular speaker at conferences concerning international dispute resolution, in particular in the oil and gas sector, and he has also written a number of articles in this field. Will has lectured widely on international boundary dispute resolution, including at King’s College, London University, the International Foundation for the Law of the Sea (IFLOS) and the International Boundaries Research Unit (IBRU). He also teaches courses on international arbitration at both the University of Versailles and Sciences Po, Paris.

Will is a qualified English solicitor and holds a degree from the University of Cambridge. He is recommended for international arbitration by the Legal 500 directory, in which sources have noted that Will’s “technical knowledge, mastery of the facts and grasp of the practice set him apart” (EMEA 2013). He has also been recommended by Chambers Global in the field of public international law (2012,2013) as well as for international arbitration, receiving strong client feedback (“really very brilliant” – Chambers France, 2015).”

Will was also recently noted by a commentator in Global Arbitration Review (2014) as “a leading light in arbitration”.

Eversheds has a team of elite international arbitration lawyers representing companies, investors, financial institutions, States and State entities around the world.

We have grown rapidly in recent years as more and more clients recognise Eversheds’ growing reputation as a top-level arbitration practice. We are known for our forensic preparation, pragmatic strategic advice, efficient working practices and winning advocacy. In recognition of our success, Global Arbitration Review ranks us in the top 20 arbitration practices worldwide. Our team of lawyers now spans the world’s major international arbitration centres, including London, Paris, Zurich, Geneva, Stockholm, Vienna, Dubai, Singapore and Hong Kong.

In addition to our top-flight practice of commercial and investment arbitration, we are regarded as the world’s pre-eminent public international law practice. We advise clients on all aspects of public international law, both contentious and non-contentious, including boundary disputes, State responsibility, global trade agreements, environmental matters, human rights issues and sanctions. Notably, our lawyers have represented States before the International Court of Justice, the Iran-US Claims Tribunal, and other international dispute bodies and tribunals more frequently than any other firm in any jurisdiction.

Several of our international arbitration experts are leaders within the wider arbitration community; we have between us a Vice-President of the ICC, three former ICC Court members, a trustee of the Dubai International Arbitration Centre, a former member of the WTO Dispute Settlement Appellate Body, and a former co-chair of the LCIA’s Young International Arbitration Group. Members of our team also lecture at numerous prestigious universities and institutions across the world.

Whilst a relatively young team, we have broken through to the top rank, and global organisations are increasingly choosing us over longer-established firms to advise them on their matters of paramount importance. We will continue to invest heavily in this area, which is a growth focus for Eversheds, to ensure our clients get the very best available international legal advice.

Eversheds is one of the world’s largest corporate law firms. Committed locally, but connected globally, with offices based in the world’s major economic centres, with a proven track record of delivering consistently high quality legal services across jurisdictions.

The firm has developed organically over the past decade working for corporate organisations of all shapes and sizes in countries where they want to do business. Lawyers in all locations share the same values, ways of working and understanding of what clients really want. The past year has seen further international expansion for the firm. In the Middle East, the firm has become the first international player to establish offices in Iraq and is now one of the largest international players on the ground, with local lawyers based in Abu Dhabi, Amman, Doha, Dubai and Riyadh.

As a modern, progressive law firm, Eversheds sets itself apart through its people, culture and its attitude to change. Quality is a matter of personal pride to everyone and staff of the highest calibre are recruited and retained by the firm. Collaborative working and innovative thinking is encouraged and supported at all levels, meaning that clients enjoy an offering that is constantly evolving and improving to meet their changing needs. This has led to pioneering approaches to the law such as genuine project management and measurement of results that leads to cost predictability and control. In particular, the firm is noted for effectively delivering complex, multi-national legal services through one point of contact.

Relationships with clients are deep and genuine. An understanding of the sector and business culture which each client operates in, is a given. Collaboration is seen as a way of providing the most effective advice. Trust and accountability are the bedrock of all the firm’s client relationships.

Every year, Eversheds breaks new ground and is a firm that offers a clear alternative to those who want more from their lawyers.
